Looking after it

Take the cells out if it is going to sit unused for months, and keep the magnet face clean of swarf so it holds its full rating.

Bending Neck360 degrees, to light and reach round a corner
Magnet Rated To 1 kgIntegrated in the head, as stated by the maker
Three LEDs360 degree illumination where a torch will not go
Aluminium AlloyWeatherproof and shock resistant per the maker

A telescoping magnet with a bendable head and three LEDs, for the bolt that went behind the engine.

Aluminium alloy body, an integrated magnet the maker rates to 1 kg, a 360 degree bending neck and a hook, running on alkaline cells.

A telescoping magnetic pickup tool with a light in the same body, which is the combination the job actually needs.

The head bends through 360 degrees, so the light goes round the corner the dropped part went round.

The magnet is integrated in the head and the maker rates it to lift objects weighing up to 1 kg.

A hook-shaped tool is included for the times the thing you dropped is not magnetic.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

The tool exists because two problems always arrive together: the part fell somewhere you cannot see, and it fell somewhere you cannot reach.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

The telescoping shaft handles the reach. The bending neck handles the fact that the gap is rarely in a straight line from where your hand is.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

Three LEDs with 360 degree illumination is the part people underestimate. A torch held in the other hand lights the entrance to a gap; a light on the end of the tool lights the inside of it.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

The magnet is rated to 1 kg by the maker. That is a spanner or a handful of fasteners, not a cylinder head, and it is worth knowing before you try to lift something with it.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

The hook is there for the non-magnetic case, which is most plastic clips and every aluminium fastener.

Magnetic Pickup Tool

The body is aluminium alloy and the maker describes it as weatherproof and shock resistant, which is a fair description of what a tool that lives in a door pocket has to survive.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

What is a Magnetic Pickup Tool?

A Magnetic Pickup Tool, also known as a Telescoping Magnet Flashlight, is a handheld device designed to retrieve small metallic objects in hard-to-reach areas. It consists of a telescoping rod with a magnetic tip that attracts and holds metallic items. The tool is often used in automotive repairs, construction sites, and other applications where retrieving metal objects is necessary.

How does a Telescoping Magnet Flashlight work?

A Telescoping Magnet Flashlight works by utilizing a strong magnetic field at its tip. The tool contains a magnet that attracts ferrous or magnetic objects when it comes into proximity with them. The telescoping feature allows the tool to extend or retract, making it easier to reach objects in confined spaces. Additionally, some versions of the tool feature an integrated flashlight for better visibility in dark or dimly lit areas.

What are the applications of a Magnetic Pickup Tool?

A Magnetic Pickup Tool finds utility in various fields and situations. Some common applications include: 1. Automotive repairs: Retrieving dropped screws, nuts, or bolts from engine compartments or tight spaces. 2. Construction sites: Collecting nails, screws, or other metal debris from floors, walls, or ceilings. 3. Home improvement: Retrieving metal objects from behind appliances, furniture, or hard-to-reach areas. 4. Plumbing repairs: Retrieving small metal parts like washers or bolts from pipes or drains. 5. Metalworking: Collecting metal shavings or scraps during machining or welding processes.

What are the advantages of using a Telescoping Magnet Flashlight?

Using a Telescoping Magnet Flashlight offers several benefits, including: 1. Easy retrieval: The magnetic tip allows you to effortlessly pick up metallic objects without the need for manual dexterity. 2. Versatility: The telescoping feature enables you to reach confined spaces or areas that are difficult to access. 3. Enhanced visibility: Some versions of the tool come with an integrated flashlight, providing illumination in dark or poorly lit areas. 4. Time-saving: The tool helps you retrieve dropped objects quickly, reducing the time spent searching or disassembling equipment. 5. Cost-effective: It eliminates the need for expensive or specialized equipment to retrieve small metallic items.

How do I choose the right Magnetic Pickup Tool?

When selecting a Magnetic Pickup Tool or Telescoping Magnet Flashlight, consider the following factors: 1. Magnetic strength: Look for a tool with a strong magnet to ensure effective retrieval of various metal objects. 2. Telescoping length: Choose a tool with an adequate telescoping range to reach the desired areas. 3. Durability: Opt for a tool made from sturdy materials that can withstand frequent use and potential impacts. 4. Grip and ergonomics: Consider tools with comfortable handles or non-slip grips for ease of use. 5. Additional features: Some tools may include a built-in flashlight, flexible shaft, or other accessories that can enhance functionality.

Are there any safety precautions to follow when using a Telescoping Magnet Flashlight?

Yes, it is important to observe certain safety precautions while using a Telescoping Magnetic Pickup Tool or any similar tool: 1. Avoid placing the magnet near sensitive electronic devices, as the magnetic field may interfere with their operation. 2. Keep the tool away from pacemakers or other medical devices that may be affected by magnetic fields. 3. Handle the tool carefully to prevent injury from sharp or protruding parts. 4. Do not use the tool near flammable or explosive materials to avoid potential accidents. 5. Store the tool in a safe place when not in use, away from children or pets who may accidentally swallow small parts.

Can a Magnetic Pickup Tool or Telescoping Magnet Flashlight be used underwater?

The usability of a Magnetic Pickup Tool or Telescoping Magnet Flashlight underwater depends on the specific model and its waterproof capabilities. While some tools are designed to withstand limited exposure to water, others may not be suitable for underwater use. It is essential to check the manufacturer's specifications and instructions to determine if the tool is appropriate for underwater applications.

How do I clean and maintain a Magnetic Pickup Tool?

To clean and maintain a Magnetic Pickup Tool effectively, follow these steps: 1. Wipe the tool with a clean, dry cloth after each use to remove dirt, dust, or debris. 2. Inspect the magnet for any signs of damage or loss of magnetic strength. Replace the tool if necessary. 3. If the tool is exposed to water or moisture, dry it thoroughly to prevent rust or corrosion. 4. Avoid storing the tool in humid or damp environments to maintain its performance. 5. Lubricate any moving parts, such as the telescoping mechanism, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Can a Magnetic Pickup Tool or Telescoping Magnet Flashlight be used to retrieve non-metallic objects?

No, Magnetic Pickup Tools or Telescoping Magnet Flashlights are specifically designed for retrieving metallic objects. They rely on the magnetic attraction between the tool's tip and the metal items. Non-metallic objects, such as plastic, wood, or glass, are not attracted to magnets and cannot be retrieved using this tool. For non-metallic objects, alternative methods or tools appropriate to the material should be used.

Are there any alternatives to a Magnetic Pickup Tool or Telescoping Magnet Flashlight?

Yes, there are alternative tools and methods for retrieving small objects in hard-to-reach areas. Some alternatives include: 1.Forceps or tweezers: These tools allow you to manually grab and retrieve small objects. 2.Vacuum or suction devices: Certain tools utilize suction to pick up objects that are not attracted to magnets. 3.Adhesive putty or sticky tapes: These can be pressed onto the object to adhere to it and lift it. 4.Flexible grabber tools: These tools have a long, flexible shaft with a grabbing mechanism at the end, enabling retrieval from narrow spaces. 5.Disassembly or dismantling: In some cases, disassembling the equipment or structure may be necessary to access and retrieve the object. Retrieving a dropped part without making it worse

2 min read Industry Tools Company UK

The first rule of a dropped fastener is to stop moving. Every extra shuffle sends it further into somewhere worse.

Work out what it is before you fish for it. Steel comes out on a magnet. Stainless is usually only weakly magnetic, and aluminium, brass and plastic are not magnetic at all, which is what the hook is for.

Light it first, then reach. The reason a light on the tool beats a torch in the other hand is that you can see the part and the tool at the same time, and can watch the magnet arrive rather than sweeping blind.

Bend the neck to the shape of the gap rather than forcing the tool straight in. A 360 degree neck can be set to a dog-leg, and that is what gets round a bracket.

Do not sweep a strong magnet across electronics or a card. It is a small magnet, but the habit is worth having.

Keep the magnet face clean. Swarf sticks to it and every layer of swarf costs you some of the rated 1 kg.

If it is under a car, do not go under the car for it. Get the vehicle properly supported first: no dropped bolt is worth a lift that is not on stands.
